Mehmet Demiray finished his undergraduate education in Sociology department at Middle East Technical University and continued graduate education in Bilkent University, Political Science and Public Administration Department with the merit scholarship of Bilkent University Social Science Institute. He also worked as a research assistant in the same department.
During his studies he participated in numerous Univeristy and Tubitak (Turkish Science Foundation) projects, as field researcher, coordinator or research manager. He also worked in several multi-national research projects and take responsibility in coordination the research all around Turkey. During these projects he conducted research in Afyon-Emirdağ; Bürüksel-Scharbeek/Anderlecht, Germany, Berlin, Hamburg, Bilefeld and Turkey, İstanbul, Ankara, İzmir among the migrant groups and institutions.
Besides his studies he worked as free-lance consultant and reporter for research agencies specialised in political polls and public opinion surveys. After finishing his academic studies, he continued his career in İstanbul based research companies such as Veri, GfK, Millward Brown and Tria. He established the first ethnographic research company with Demet Demiray in 2009 and started doing research by applying the principles of anthropology and participant observation instead of classic survey based market research relying solely to consumer declaration.
In Virtua research, he developed research solutions for Energy firms, Construction Companies and Real Estate Developers. In 2010 he conducted a research by making face to face interviews with 21 top executive members of construction firms engaging in Istanbul housing market. Infomag Journal used the main findings of the research as a special file and published as a cover in March. He is a co-author and editor of the book “The rulers of the supply in housing” which investigate real estate development in Istanbul.
